Separation anxiety: boarding begins before packing the bag
Describe what happens during absences, how quickly it begins, and what has helped. Hiding escape attempts or self-injury leaves caregivers without room to prepare.

ASPCA describes separation anxiety through behavior that begins as the guardian prepares to leave or after the person has gone. Vocalizing, destruction, elimination, drooling, and escape attempts may occur. One episode of barking is not enough for the label. Pattern, intensity, and timing matter.
